The Guardian today:

Russia to leave Georgia after EU deal

How utterly shamefully absurdly useless these people are.

The ensuing article:

In a press conference yesterday afternoon, after four hours of talks, Medvedev made clear that Russia’s withdrawal of forces depended on Georgia signing a "non-aggression pact" with South Ossetia and Abkhazia. The pullout does not include Abkhazia and South Ossetia where, Medvedev said, Russia would continue to provide what he termed "military assistance".

In other words, Russia is not leaving Georgia.

It is keeping its forces in slices of Georgia which Russia and almost no-one else asserts are not in Georgia.

Any normal person might conclude that the fact that President Sarkozy on behalf of the EU seems to accept this outlandish outcome is a huge victory for the Kremlin. The Guardian:

The deal appears to mark a major achievement for Sarkozy.

And see the Telegraph:

Mr Sarkozy also signaled that the EU would immediately renew talks on a new partnership deal with Moscow as soon as the withdrawal was complete – even if Russia does not rescind its unilateral recognition of independence for South Ossetia and Abkhazia, the two breakaway republics at the heart of the Georgian conflict.

The great thing about being a stone in a stream is that the water adjusts rather than you.

OK, you risk being eroded over a few millenia, but that maybe is a price worth paying.

EU foreign policy.

Stoned.
