While perusing the FT‘s website I saw this exhortation to Mancunians to vote for a Congestion Charge.
In a bewildering display of insolence towards the FT, Manchester has voted massively No:
With a margin of almost four to one, a referendum in which more than 1m people participated rejected plans to introduce a £5 a day charge for driving in the UK’s third-biggest city in return for improved public transport.
None of Greater Manchester’s 10 council areas voted in favour and they are now likely to drop the bid for £2.7bn of government money they in return (sic) for becoming the first city outside the capital with a congestion charge, at a meeting next week.
Another worthy blow against Elite Greed.
Why should hard pressed taxpayers miles away such as myself pay £2.7bn to support the displacement/removal of traffic jams in Manchester?
