More high-pitched noise on the status or not in the Catholic Church of Bishop Richard Williamson, with Chancellor Merkel ploughing in:
"This is not just a matter, in my opinion, for the Christian, Catholic and Jewish communities in Germany but the Pope and the Vatican should clarify unambiguously that there can be no denial," she said.
The Vatican proclaims:
"Bishop Williamson, in order to be admitted to the Episcopal functions of the Church, must in an absolutely unequivocal and public way distance himself from his positions regarding the Shoah [Holocaust]," the Vatican statement said.
It appears that Holocaust-deniers are just not acceptable in polite society.
But what about Holocaust-extollers?
Senior religious people who think that the Holocaust both did happen and was excellent (albeit a bit lacking in resolve and thoroughness), and who want to do a better job themselves next time?
Meet Sheikh Yousuf al-Qaradawi:
Allah imposed Hitler upon the Jews to punish them — and Allah willing, the next time will be at the hands of the believers
Not much on the BBC website or from EU leaders about this cleric’s ambitious views?
Rummage around on YouTube and you’ll find the Sheikh pronouncing with some decisiveness on lots of world problems, including how best to punish those girls who fall under bad influences and let their little hands stray into … risky places.
