Deep, deep as we are plunged into the part of the year when the newspapers move at last to the Subjects which Really Matter, I note this article in my own newspaper the marvellous Guardian which dwells on the etiquette of, hem, peeing in the shower, preferably when the water is flowing fast and sure towards the plug-hole.

The writer offers this thought:

… it also behoves the micturator to do his/her business right at the beginning of his/her ablutions, thus providing a full rinse cycle.

Is this a sexist solecism? Should we not have both micturator (male) and micturatrix (female) rather than one form for both?

Or, since the original Latin root is reliably said to be micturire and not micturare, (ie third or fourth conjugation) does that pair of gender forms apply in this case at all? Maybe the noun rather should be something like micturent, not micturator?
