I cravenly sat here gibbering with nerves rather than listen to the radio commentary of Manchester City v Tottenham: the key game of the season with the winner making it in to the Champions League qualifiers.
And … hurrah!
Which reminds me of the 1981 Cup Final replay. An evening match. Tottenham v Manchester City.
I was a fresh-faced Second Secretary at the Embassy in Belgrade. As luck had it, there was a dinner requiring my modest presence, as hosted by the then Ambassador.
So I sat there at dinner, trying quietly to get the bemused waiters to find the score. Back then in the days long before the Internet, it proved impossible to get the score before I headed for my flat.
I nervously turned on the World Service news just before midnight.
To hear a tumultuous replay of the radio commentary of …
All this and the Guardian reporting an 8% Conservative lead on election eve.
Frabjous indeed.
