Here in Brussels the already expensive hotel charges an absurd €6+ for an hour’s Internet access, and some €5 for 24 hours’ access.
I wonder how these clever hotel chains price Internet access. It’s all about price elasticity of demand – if we add on (or take off) a few more Euros, will we get more money in?
In my own case, I might be persuaded to pay (say) an extra €5 for 24 hours’ access, annoying but somehow reasonable. I also won’t notice if they add on (say) €20 to the cost of each hotel night and bung in free Internet.
But if it costs €25 on top of what looks already to be too expensive a room, they’ll get nothing more from me.
Luckily for me this evening there is a stray open wireless signal sloshing around, so I can type and post all this for free anyway.
Ha!
