Remember the mighty Spengler’s prediction only a few weeks ago? Thus:
… McCain will win in November, and by a landslide, barring some unforeseen event. Obama is the most talented and persuasive politician of his generation, the intellectual superior of all his competitors, but a fatally insecure personality.
He no doubt will claim that the sudden shudder of the global financial system was that ‘unforeseen event’ (although his own gloomy writings had suggested that at some point things would start to unravel) which threw McCain off track.
But as well as events, unforeseen or otherwise, there seems to have been a certain lack of both grip and message in the McCain campaign. With a bit more of either he should have persuaded some 2% of people to vote for him.
And won.
In the USA they keep things simple.
People who win are Winners.
And those who lose are Losers.
