For my birthday I received the DVD set of the BBC’s Little Dorrit adaptation.

At first sight this falls some way short of the utterly wonderful BBC Bleak House. Little Dorrit is too feisty and (perhaps because the convolutions of the original plot were just too convoluted?) there are some clunky attempts to make it all seem ‘mysterious’ much too early on.

So, I’ll press on but expect to default back to the book.

However, how best to ‘read’ this long book? There are four possibilities these days:

  • Paperback (ie a real book!)
  • Audiobook
  • E-book (Kindle)
  • iPhone

Luckily for us Ann Kirschner has been busy comparing and contrasting these very different formats.

The result?

Is here.

And has a lot to say about how we all will be reading in the future.
